Entry #2 : ZOMBIE MERFOLK

by Xaqery

People might think it ludicrous to continue to live and work near Zombie Merfolk infested waters!

Contents:
Game Board of island territories; here you will gather resources, place outpost, hire mercenaries, and deploy boats. Some territories you will gather resources only.

Small wooden cubes in 4 colors; these are the different resources you will collect: wood, stone, gold, and food.

Wooden parts in 5 colors; Outpost, fences, Small boats, Large Boats, and Mercenaries: These are used to gather resources and protect you from Zombie Attacks.

Zombie Attack deck; This deck contains 4 different cards. This is used to see where and how much damage the Zombies will inflict. Most of the cards are NO ATTACK cards. There is only one Volcano card.

Larger Wooden cubes. These blue cubes are victory points.

Turn-order markers in 5 colors; these are used to determine what order the players will take turns in.

One cloth Battle Bag; Players pieces go in here to randomly see who dies.

Set-up:
Give each player all the pieces of one color. Give each player 2 of each resource.

In a 2 player game put 10 Victory point cubes near the board; 15 in for 3 players; 20 for 4 players; and 25 for 5. The game ends when the last victory point is bought with resources.

Randomly place the turn-order makers on the board. This will be the order of the first turn.

Now in the turn-order players play one outpost on any non-resource territory. They also place one mercenary there.

Game Play:
The game is played in turns of four phases until all the victory points are gone. Then there will be a scoring round. The winner is the player with the most points.

The four phases are: Move, Zombie, Gather, and Build ending the turn.

Move –
In turn-order players may move any or all of their mercenaries and boats one space each. If you have boats that bridge one island to the next you may move a mercenary to the next island.

Zombie –
In turn-order each player does the following:
Find their longest trade-route. A trade-route is a string of mercenaries and boats that lead from a resource to an outpost. Only the longest route for each player is attacked. If the player doesn’t have one he is not attacked this turn.

For each territory in the route the player turns over card from the Zombie Attack deck. You must turn over 1 card per mercenary present and 2 per boat or outpost.

If you get a NO ATTACK CARD nothing happens.

If you get a VOLCANO card all outpost and mercenaries adjacent to the volcano are destroyed.

If you get a ATTACK ONE or TWO card the zombies have destroyed something in that territory. If ONE one item is destroyed if TWO then two items are destroyed.

WHEN ZOMBIES ATTACK: Destroy items in this order: Fences; Mercenaries; Small Boats; Large Boats; and Outpost.

Example
– Land territory; player 1 has 2 mercenaries, player 2 has 1 mecenary, there is also 1 fence, and 1 outpost. Its player one’s turn: He draws 4 cards from the deck. 3 cards are NO ATTACK and 1 is an ATTACK 2. The fence goes away. The 3 mercenaries are placed into the battle bag and 1 is drawn out and removed from play. The other two are returned to the territory. The outpost is saved.

Example
– Water territory; player 1 has 1 large boat, player 2 has 1 large and 1 small boat. Its player one’s turn: He draws 2 cards from the deck. 1 card a NO ATTACK and 1 is an ATTACK 2. The lone small boat goes away. The 2 large boats go into the battle bag and 1 is drawn out and removed from play. The other is returned to the territory.

All cards are shoveled back into the deck after each player is attacked.

Gather –
First place one resource on each gathering territory on the board until there are a maximum of 8 at any location.

Then In turn order players gather resources at the rate of 2 per mercenary present.

Build –
Players build one item at a time or decide to pass. On your turn you may build anything on the build chart. If you pass you then move your turn-order marker to the next position changing the order for the next turn. If you are the first to bow out for the turn you will go first next turn and you may select 1 resource of your choice from the bank.

Mercenaries only start at outpost.
Outpost can only go where you have a Mercenary.
You may not build in a resource territory.

Zombies then steal any resources you have over 3. Return your choice of extra resources to the bank.
